Scholarships

As an enrolled IVSP student, you have access to three types of scholarships to support your learning plans. Please submit your application as soon as possible to individualstudies@umd.edu, with copies also to jburton1@umd.edu and ljusie1@umd.edu.

Study/Internship Abroad Award: up to $1500
This scholarship will award current Individual Studies Program students who plan to study, engage in an internship or do research abroad that directly relates to their IVSP major. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 at minimum. To be considered for this scholarship, please submit a letter describing the abroad experience and how it specifically relates to your IVSP major as well as a breakdown of your expenses. Research Award: up to $500
This scholarship will award current Individual Studies Program students. Applicants must have a major approved by the Faculty Review Board, have at least a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 and be an IVSP major. To be considered for this scholarship, please submit a letter that breaks down how you will use this award money (for what expenses) and how this award relates to your IVSP degree/your completion of your capstone project/etc., and please also attach an unofficial or official transcript and an updated résumé.

Unpaid Internship Award: up to $1,000
This scholarship will award current Individual Studies Program students who are working at an unpaid internship. It will also cover trips to attend or present research at conferences. Applicants must have at least a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. To be considered for this scholarship, please submit a letter that details how this award contributes to your IVSP degree, and break down your expenses. Please also attach an unofficial or official transcript and an updated résumé. Please notice the amount of $500 is a typical award during fall and spring semesters and $1,000 more possible to help enable unpaid summer internships.
